Faba bean ingredients
Faba bean ingredients belong to the Fabaceae family, also called Leguminosae. They are a source of dietary fibre, protein and starch, as well as vitamin C, folates, calcium, phosphorous, iron and zinc.
BENEO’s faba ingredients are sourced and produced in Germany in agreement with the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA) and the Gold level for German farmers. Our faba beans varieties are low in antinutritional factors (ANF) and are guaranteed non-GMO.
Faba beans can extract nitrogen from the air for themselves and subsequent plants. This reduces the need for fertilizers and the exhaustion of greenhouse gasses (GHG) at farm level. Additionally, thanks to being a local source of vegetal protein, they consequently limit the import of raw materials from overseas.
BENEO’s functional faba bean ingredients are obtained by means of dry fractionation, an environmentally friendly process that requires less water and energy compared to wet fractionation. First, the faba beans are dehulled, then they are ground and air classified. In this second step the starch and the protein are separated from one another. All obtained fractions – the hulls, starch-rich flour and protein concentrate – can be fully valorized as functional feed ingredients because of their excellent nutritional and technical features.
